Michael Morrison

Michael Morrison enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Lander women’s basketball program in 2026-27.

A Washington, D.C., native, Morrison brings more than a decade of professional playing experience and over 15 years of coaching experience to the Bearcats’ staff.

Morrison joined Lander ahead of the 2025-26 season after spending three seasons as associate head coach with the Erskine College men’s basketball program. Prior to Erskine, he served as the head boys’ basketball coach at J.L. Mann High School and the head girls’ basketball coach at St. Joseph’s High School.

He also served as an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Laurens, Greenville and Eastside high schools, helping guide Eastside to an Upper State 4A Region championship in 2017.

Before beginning his coaching career, Morrison played professionally for more than a decade. A 2007 graduate of Loyola University Maryland with a degree in mass communications, Morrison was a two-year team captain and two-time All-MAAC First Team selection during his collegiate career.

Morrison became the first player in Loyola program history to be selected in the NBA Draft when he was taken 24th overall in the second round by the Phoenix Suns. He went on to play five seasons in the NBA with the Suns, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic before continuing his professional career overseas for nine years.
