Alex Moore returned to Greenwood as Lander's pitching coach in 2022
Since returning to his alma mater, Moore has helped lead the Bearcats to three consecutive Peach Belt Conference championships, including back-to-back Peach Belt Conference Tournament titles in 2025 and 2026. Lander has also made back-to-back NCAA Division II Tournament appearances for the first time in program history.
In 2026, Moore guided a pitching staff that helped the Bearcats finish 36-21 and capture a second straight Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship. His staff featured First Team All-Peach Belt Conference selection Joshua Sanchez, who ranked among the conference leaders in appearances while serving as Lander's primary high-leverage reliever. Moore has now coached six All-Peach Belt Conference pitchers during his tenure.
The 2025 season was another milestone for Moore and the Bearcat pitching staff. Tyler Bowen was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 12th round of the MLB Draft, becoming the first Bearcat selected since Fraser Ellard was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the eighth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. Richie Cortese was also selected by the Phillies in the 17th round, giving Lander multiple MLB Draft selections in the same year for the first time since Ryan Troutman and Moore were selected in 2019. The Bearcats also produced two All-Peach Belt Conference pitchers while ranking among the nation's top 20 in hits allowed per nine innings and leading the Peach Belt Conference in wins, strikeouts and opponent batting average.
In 2024, Moore's pitching staff led the Peach Belt Conference in conference ERA and opponent batting average while ranking among the nation's top 50 in multiple statistical categories. That season also saw Anson Merrick throw the first conference no-hitter in program history.
A native of Sarasota, Florida, Moore pitched for the Bearcats from 2018-19 after transferring from Eckerd College. He logged 125.1 innings while striking out 149 batters before being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 2019 MLB Draft, becoming the ninth player in program history to be drafted.
Moore went on to play professionally in the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies organizations, advancing to the Double-A level with the Hartford Yard Goats and Spokane Indians before returning to Lander.
