Bearcats drop 3-0 decision to USC Aiken in PBC contest

AIKEN, S.C. – The Lander volleyball team dropped a Peach Belt Conference road match to USC Aiken on Tuesday night for its first league loss of the year. The Bearcats fell to the Pacers, 21-25, 15-25, 22-25. 

Lander (13-3, 1-1 PBC) rallied from an 8-3 deficit in the first set to tie the score at 9-9, but an ensuing 6-0 run from the Pacers (11-2, 2-0 PBC) put the set in USC Aiken's hands. 

Another early run for the Pacers in the second set opened up a 12-3 lead for USC Aiken, which Lander could not recover from as the Pacers took the set to claim a 2-0 lead. 

The Bearcats held a 12-7 lead midway through the third set, but USC Aiken responded to pull eventually pull even at 22-22. In a set that featured nine ties and three lead changes, the Pacers closed the match with four unanswered points to end the night. 

Kaitlyn Krafka led the Bearcats will 10 kills, while Reilly Kuenstler and Hannah Hritz each added eight. Madilyn Reed recorded 29 assists and 13 digs, Hannah McManus tallied a team-high 17 digs and Imari Ashley finished with five digs, four kills and four total blocks. 

Lander returns to action on Friday night with a road conference showdown against Flager.
