Volleyball returns to action with four matches at Fleet Classic

DUE WEST, S.C. – After picking up a pair of wins in last weekend's USC Aiken Opening Weekend Tournament, the Lander volleyball team (2-1) will return to action on Friday and Saturday in this year's Fleet Classic The Bearcats will participate in four matches over the two days, facing rival Erskine (0-4) and West Georgia (2-1) on Friday and UVA-Wise (0-1) and North Greenville (4-0) on Saturday.

• Lander earned 3-0 wins over Johnson C. Smith and Mount Olive last weekend, while falling 3-0 to Barry. 

• Freshman setter Madilyn Reed was named the PBC Specialist of the Week for her performance last weekend in Aiken. Reed averaged 10.11 assists per set and recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs in Sunday's win over Mount Olive.

• The Bearcats are averaging 13.78 kills per set. 

• Lander's match against rival Erskine will mark the first meeting between the two schools since 2014. 

• The Bearcats are facing West Georgia for just the second time in program history. 

• Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between Lander and UVA-Wise. 

• Lander is 18-1 all-time against North Greenville. The Bearcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit to top the Crusaders 3-2 in Newberry last season.
