ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak end on Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats fell to Flagler, 90-75, in Peach Belt Conference action.
Jessica Harris led the Bearcats (9-5, 6-2 PBC) with 20 points as Lander suffered its first loss to Flagler (8-4, 4-2 PBC) in nine meetings. Symone Starks added 14 points, while Mylea McKenith finished with 10 on the day.
Flagler shot 59.7 percent from the field and chipped away at a five-point deficit at the end of the first quarter by holding the Bearcats scoreless for the first 5:28 of the second quarter. The Saints outscored Lander 50-22 in the paint and held a 41-32 advantage in rebounds.
Leading 65-61 in the final minutes of the third quarter, Flagler broke the game open with a 15-5 run over the next 5:24 to pull away from the Bearcats.
Lander returns to Finis Horne Arena on Wednesday night as the Bearcats play host to Francis Marion at 5:30 p.m.
