No. 19 Lander looks to clinch PBC Tournament bye against USC Aiken

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team (8-2, 4-0 PBC) can secure a top seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Saturday as the Bearcats welcome USC Aiken  (3-5-1, 1-2 PBC) to Van Taylor Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. match.

• A win over the Pacers will secure a first-round bye in the PBC Tournament for the Bearcats. The top two seeds automatically advance to the tournament semifinals in Evans, Ga., on Nov. 3.  

• Lander owns a 35-5 all-time record against USC Aiken. 

• The Bearcats remained atop the conference standings with a 1-0 overtime win at North Georgia on Wednesday night. Robbie Young netted the game-winner, his third goal in as many matches. 

• Senior forward Sam Lofts was named the Division II Men's Soccer National Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday. Lofts recorded five goals and an assist in Lander's wins over Francis Marion and Catawba. The senior was also named the PBC Player of the Week. 

• Junior Jordan Skelton was tabbed as the PBC Defender of the Week for the second time this season. The Bearcat captain scored two goals against Catawba and anchored a defense that shut out Francis Marion.

• The Bearcats are looking to extend their streak of 13 consecutive victories in the regular season against PBC opponents. 

• Lander ranks fifth in the nation in shots per match (19.3), sixth in shots on goal per match (9.1), ninth in points per match (8.1), total assists (23) and toal points (81), and 10th in assists per match (2.3), scoring offense (2.9 goals per match) and total goals (29).
