CONOVER, N.C. – The No. 17-ranked Lander men's golf team fell into a tie for 17th place on the second day of the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa.
The Bearcats struggled on a day in which only two of the 20 competing teams finished under par. West Florida shot a one-over to hold a two-stroke lead entering the final round at the par-71, 6,940-yard layout. Florida Southern led the pack with an eight-under to move into second, while Barry shot two-under to rise to third on the leaderboard.
Lander shot a 20-over 304 on the day, led by sophomore Conor Richards' one-over 72. Richards enters the final day of the regional tied for 12th.
Junior Michael Brode finished with a four-over 75 to tie for 31st. Senior Garrett Atkinson carded a six-over 77 to move into a tie for 77th.
The Bearcats begin their final round at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday and will be paired with Newberry and Albany State.
