Bocchino earns Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honor

GREENWOOD – Lander senior Peter Bocchino claimed Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honors as the Bearcats secured their second straight conference Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Monday.

Bocchino, a native of Saugus, Mass., batted .500 (4-for-8) with three home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored. Making his second start of the season, Bocchino gave Lander a 4-0 lead on No. 1-ranked North Greenville on Wednesday night with a second inning grand slam, his first homer of the season and first hit since Feb. 16.

Three days later, Bocchino started at first base on Senior Day and went 3-for-3 with two solo homers and three RBI as Lander knocked off USC Aiken. He became just the second Bearcat this season to homer twice in one game, along with Roury Glanton, who notched a pair of round-trippers against Mount Olive on Feb. 2.

Bocchino and Glanton become the first Bearcats to earn back-to-back PBC Player of the Week honors since Patrick Grady, Graham Ramos, and Colby Painter won the award in consecutive weeks in February of 2013.

Lander ends the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at North Georgia.
