Wolchick's two-hitter leads No. 2 Bearcats past Hurricanes

GREENWOOD – Lander's Dylan Wolchick tossed a two-hit shutout Friday night to lead the No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team to a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern in the first game of a three-game series at Dolny Stadium.

The two teams will finish the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Lander improves to 26-5 overall and 16-3 in the PBC, while GSW slips to 11-21, 2-13.

Wolchick, who improved to 6-1 on the season, struck out nine and walked one against 29 batters faced.

GSW's Frank Ambrosino (0-6) took the loss after striking out seven, walking one and allowing one run (not earned) on eight hits in 7.1 innings.

Lander scored the lone run of the game in the first inning when Graham Ramos singled, advanced to second on an error and scored on Weston Lawing's RBI single.

For Lander, Connor Lewis batted 2-for-3 with two doubles, Colby Painter went 2-for-3, and Ramos 2-for-4.
