Women's soccer picked 5th in PBC preseason poll

GREENWOOD - The Lander women's soccer team is picked to finish fifth of 11 teams in the Peach Belt Conference this season according to a coaches' poll released Monday.

Lander posted a 9-7-1 overall record in 2010 and finished sixth in the final PBC standings with a 4-5-1 mark.

Armstrong Atlantic earned five first- and second-place votes and topped the poll with 95 points, followed by Columbus State (93 points) with four first-place votes, and North Georgia (78) with two first-place votes.

UNC Pembroke came in fourth with 76 points, followed by Lander (56), Georgia College (55), Montevallo (49), Clayton State (36), Flagler (36), USC Aiken (17), and Georgia Southwestern (14).

The Lady Bearcats will open their season at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, when they host Wingate University in a non-conference game.
