SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Lander women's golf team finds itself in sixth place after the first round of the Converse Spring Invite at the par-72, 5,881-yard Carolina Country Club.
Lander shot a 59-over 347 as a team through the first 18 holes of the event. Newberry sits in first with a 35-over 323 entering Tuesday's final round.
Hannah Fesperman is tied for 10th after a nine-over 81 effort. Four strokes back is Hannah Stephenson with a 13-over 85, who is tied for 21st. Caroline Hardee finished 18-over on 90 shots, Grace Zoller shot a 19-over 91, Madison Jordan posted a 24-over 96 and Caroline Jenkins shot a 36-over 108.
Catawba's Sarah Coltrane shot a five-over 77 to top the individual leaderboard.
The tournament concludes tomorrow as the Bearcats enter the day 18 strokes back of a three-way tie for third place and one stroke ahead of rival Erskine.
