Softball matches up with No. 1 North Georgia in PBC Tournament semifinals

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The fifth-seeded Lander softball team (32-17) looks to punch its ticket to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship on Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats face top-ranked and top-seeded North Georgia (54-2) in the semifinals of the PBC tournament at 12:30 p.m., at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.

STORYLINES

• Lander is participating in its 18th Peach Belt Conference tournament. The Bearcats own a 23-31 all-time record in the tournament. 

• The Bearcats have notched their first 30-win season since 2005. 

• Lander is meeting North Georgia in the PBC tournament for the second time. The Nighthawks defeated Lander 4-0 in the 2010 tournament. 

• Senior Casey Wooten has set the single-season and career steal records for Lander. Wooten has 32 steals for the Bearcats this year and 81 in her career.  

• The Bearcats posted a winning record in conference play for the first time since 1998.  

• Lander is looking to advance to its first PBC Tournament championship game since 1995.  

• The Bearcats fell to North Georgia 7-0 and 5-2 at home in the regular season.
