Grimes, Ferguson named to All-Peach Belt Conference softball team

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Sophomore Sydney Grimes and senior McKenzi Ferguson were tabbed as All-Peach Belt Conference selection it was announced Thursday night at the annual awards banquet at the University of North Georgia. Grimes was named first-team All-PBC, while Ferguson was named second-team all-conference. 

A second baseman from Hoschton, Ga., Grimes has started all 48 games for the Bearcats this season. She leads the team with a .356 batting average, 57 hits and three triples. Grimes has also stolen 14 bases this season and ranks third in the conference in triples.

Ferguson, a pitcher from Erwin, Tenn., owns a 21-7 record in the circle this season with two saves and a 2.12 ERA. Despite only spending three years at Lander, Ferguson ranks second on the school's career strikeout list. She leads the league with 20 complete games this year and ranks second in the PBC in wins. 

The Bearcats have earned All-PBC honorees for three consecutive seasons for the first time since 2011-13. 

Lander faces Young Harris in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
