GREENWOOD – Juniors Chandler Carey and Kasey Rogers of the Lander softball squad were among 57 Peach Belt Conference student-athletes named to the PBC softball All-Academic team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Carey boasts a 3.69 GPA while majoring in business at Lander. The Hull, Ga., native has hit .321 in 48 games this season, while racking up 13 extra-base hits and 35 runs batted in. The junior leads the Bearcats with a .425 on-base percentage. Carey ranks fourth in the PBC in sacrifice hits and fifth in runners caught stealing.
Rogers owns a 3.44 GPA as an exercise science major. The Bennettsville, S.C., native is batting .290 in 48 games, tallying 22 RBI while drawing 16 walks. Rogers is one of five Bearcats with at least one double, one triple and one home run this season.
Lander faces Young Harris in the PBC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night at 6:30 p.m., in Dahlonega, Ga.
