Lander's McKenzi Ferguson named PBC Pitcher of the Week

GREENWOOD – Senior pitcher McKenzi Ferguson's three-win week helped the Erwin, Tenn., native capture Pitcher of the Week honors from the Peach Belt Conference, it was announced Monday.

This week's award is the second this season for Ferguson and the third of her career. She is now the most decorated Bearcat pitcher in history in terms of weekly awards from the PBC. Overall, Lander has won PBC Pitcher of the Week eight times in program history.

Ferguson tossed a pair of complete games, shutting out Virginia-Wise, 4-0, and holding Francis Marion to a single run in a 4-1 Bearcat win. She came out of the bullpen in Lander's second game against Francis Marion, pitching one scoreless inning of relief to earn the win in the Bearcats' 4-3 victory.

The week improved Ferguson's record to 9-1, owning a 1.62 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 69.1 innings pitched.

Ferguson and the Bearcats resume action Thursday in St. Petersburg, Fla., against Eckard at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. before heading to Flagler for a conference doubleheader on Saturday.
