Five Bearcats included on PBC All-Academic team

GREENWOOD  The Lander softball team placed five players on the Peach Belt Conference's All-Academic team, the PBC office announced today.

Chandler Carey, Destiny Clyde, Lexi Griffin, Halie Sorrow and Reychel Webster earned all-academic honors. 

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.

Carey, a sophomore business major from Hull, Ga., led the Bearcats with a .346 batting average, 12 doubles and eight home runs on the year. 

Clyde, a senior mass communications major from Loganville, Ga., started all 50 games at second base and recorded a team-high 56 hits. 

Griffin, a sophomore exercise science major from Social Circle, Ga., made six starts and 11 appearances out of the bullpen for the Bearcats. 

Sorrow, a junior business major from Monroe, Ga., tied for second on the team with four home runs.

Webster, a senior business major from Stuyvesant, N.Y., batted .287 on the season, making 46 starts in the outfield.
