Lander opens season with fourth-place finish at Eye Opener Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Lander men's cross country team finished fourth at its first meet of the season on Friday night at the Eye Opener Invitational. 

Furman and Lenoir-Rhyne claimed first place honors at the Division I and Division II levels, respectively. 

Sophomore Fergus O'Rourke paced the Bearcats, finishing 54th with a time of 30:14. 

Freshman Chase Couch placed 68th (32:08), junior Brad Daniels finished 70th (32:27) with freshman Trent Powers right behind in 71st (32:36), freshman Sam Smith placed 73rd (33:29), and sophomore McKenna Burrows finished 74th (33:36). 

Junior Samonzy Wiggins (34:34) placed 77th and sophomore Evin Fortenberry (37:21) rounded out the Lander field with an 87th-place finish.
