Cross country poised for season debut at Eye Opener Invitational

GREENWOOD – The men's and women's cross country teams are set to open their 2017 seasons on Friday at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, SC. The women's 5K race will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed shortly by the men's 8K race starting at 7:15 p.m. with both races being held at the Roger Milliken Center.

STORYLINES:

Hosted by USC Upstate, the event has routinely featured some of the best cross country programs on the NCAA Divisions I and II levels

In-state foes Anderson, Converse, Erskine and Limestone are all scheduled to compete in this 34th annual running of the Eye Opener Invitational

The 2017 campaign will be remembered as a milestone year for both the men's and women's sides. For the men, this marks their first season since 1999, with the women having their last year in 2008.

First-time head coach Kevin Scola, who previously served as an assistant at Frostburg State University, will be at the helm for Lander in this historic season.

Next up for the Bearcats will be the Jaguar Cross Country Challenge hosted by conference opponent Augusta on Saturday, September 9th.
