No. 4 men's tennis fends off Newberry in home opener

GREENWOOD  The No. 4-ranked Lander men's tennis team won two doubles matches and three singles matches en route to a 5-4 non-conference victory over Newberry Wednesday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

The Bearcats improve to 1-1 overall, while Newberry drops to 0-2.

In singles, No. 1 Edison Ambarzumjan (NBY) def. Jules Vauthier (LU) 6-3, 2-6, 6-3; No. 2 David Korsten (LU) def. Jordan Monosky (NBY) 6-4, 6-4; No. 3 Nikhil Mannepalli (NBY) def. Ozan Cildir (LU) 5-7, 6-4 (10-4); No. 4 Eirik Groner (LU) def. Angel Pizarro (NBY) 6-0, 6-2; No. 5 Logan Adkins (NBY) def. Liam Roos (LU) 6-4, 5-7 (10-8); and No. 6 Paul Arslanian (LU) def. Richard Zeh (NBY) 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, No. 1 Marc Hofer/Omar El-Moslemany (LU) def. Jordan Monosky/Edison Ambarzumjan (NBY) 8-6; No. 2 David Korsten/Eirik Groner (LU) def. Nikhil Mannepalli/Angel Pizarro (NBY) 8-5; and No. 3 Logan Adkins/Richard Zeh (NBY) def. Ozan Cildir/Charles Baron (LU) 9-8 (9-7).
