No. 4 men's tennis edged by Saint Leo in opener

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked Lander men's tennis team opened the 2017 season with a close defeat at the hands of No. 2 Saint Leo, 5-4, on Sunday morning.

Lander drops to 0-1 overall, while SLU improves to 1-0. 

In singles, No. 1 Thomas Grinberg (SLM) def. #46 David Korsten (LU) by default; No. 2 Vincent Suillerot (SLM) def. Jules Vauthier (LU) 6-3, 6-1; No. 3 Jaime Bueno (SLM) def. Ozan Cildir (LU) 6-3, 6-0; No. 4 Eirik Groner (LU) def. Francisco Aparicio (SLM) 6-1, 6-1; No. 5 Alex Springer (LU) def. Chadi Omeis (SLM) 6-1, 6-3; and No. 6 Charles Benet (SLM) def. Omar El Moslemany (LU) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles, No. 1 Thomas Grinberg/Vincent Suillerot (SLM) def. Marc Hofer/Omar El Moslemany (LU) 8-5; No. 2 David Korsten/Eirik Groner (LU) def. #8 Oskar Nurmio/Jaime Bueno (SLM) 9-8 (7-5); and No. 3 Jules Vauthier/Ozan Cildir (LU) def. Francisco Aparicio/Chadi Omeis (SLM) 8-2.
