Lander, Erskine battle to 2-2 tie in men's soccer

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team settled for a 2-2 tie Wednesday night in double-overtime against non-conference rival Erskine College in their opening game in the Jeff May Complex.

Lander moves to 1-0-1 overall, while Erskine is 1-1-1.

Erskine took a 1-0 lead at 22:36 when Andrew Settlemeyer fired the ball in from the left side on an assist from Cade Weatherly.

Brett Jankouskas scored his fourth goal of the season at 40:42 when he sent a deflected goal to the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Chris Hobbs gave the Bearcats their first lead of the game at 60:54 on a double assist from Fred Parker and Zach Acree.

Erskine forced the game into overtime on Jack Kimber's unassisted goal at 86:30.

Lander outshot the Fleet, 15-14, but Erskine led in corner kicks, 11-9.

Erskine goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina recorded five saves, while Lander's Matthew Atkinson tallied three.
