Brittain’s hat trick leads men’s soccer past Hurricanes

GREENWOOD - Aaron Brittain scored three goals and Craig Hughes netted one goal and added three assists Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander men's soccer team to a 4-0 Peach Belt Conference win over Georgia Southwestern.

Lander improves to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 1-7, 0-2.

The Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead when Brittain took a Hughes pass from 10 yards out and put it in the right post at 22:51.

Hughes' header from in front of the goal at 34:08 on an assist from Fred Parker gave Lander a 2-0 lead.

Brittain and Hughes teamed together for two more goals early in the second half to finish out the scoring. Lander took a 3-0 lead at 49:15, then scored the final goal at 64:38.

Lander outshot the Hurricanes, 12-10, while GSW led in corner kicks, 8-2.

Lander goalkeeper Matthew Atkinson had one save, while GSW's David Poreley and Cade Jones had one each.
