GREENWOOD – The Lander men's golf team has added seven players to its roster for the 2018-19 season, it was announced by Bearcat head coach Mark Riddle today.
"I'm very excited about our 2018 class, with six freshman and one junior college transfer," said Riddle. "They will all fit in perfectly with our returning players. They are all great young men with high character. I'm excited about the high expectations they bring not only on the golf course but academically as well."
Rahul Ajay (Hyderabad, India) attended Sancta Maria International High School and has recorded wins at the 2016 US Kids World Championship, the President's Cup, the Lufthansa Junior Boys Championship, the 2017 Callaway Jr. Golf Championship and the 2018 Faldo Series India Championship. He finished his 2018 Junior Golf tournaments with a scoring average of 72.8.
Conor Cull (London, England), a transfer from Eastern Arizona College, was an NJCAA Division I PING All-District I selection in both his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Gila Monsters. He will be entering his junior season at Lander.
Charlie Farrell (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) played six seasons at Hilton Head Island H.S. He was a two-time All-Region selection and served as the team captain during his senior campaign. Farrell led the Seahawks with the lowest average on the team as a senior.
Matthew Griego (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) played three seasons for North Myrtle Beach H.S. He earned All-Region honors twice and was also tabbed as a two-time All-State performer. Griego was a team captain his senior year and was nominated to the North/South All-Star team.
Gabe Kelly (Ninety Six, S.C.) played at Ninety Six H.S. for four seasons. Kelly helped lead the Wildcats to four consecutive Region 2-2A championships while being named the Region Player of the Year as a sophomore. He was an All-Region performer in all four years at Ninety Six and played in four 2A state championships. Kelly was also the 2017 SCJGA Piedmont Junior Champion.
Maxime Legros (Dinard, France) has earned wins at the Vice French Open and the Federal Youth Tournament. He has been chosen to play for the French national team three times and placed in the top-15 of six major tournaments in 2017. He attended College Sainte-Marie School and was coached by Stephane Damiano at the Prime Golf Academy.
Connor Patterson (Lexington, S.C.) won five consecutive region championships in six seasons at the Lexington H.S. He was also named Region 5-5A player of the year in 2017. Among his best finishes, Patterson placed sixth in the 2016 Donald Ross Junior Championship at Pinehurst and sixth in the Henry Transou Junior Championship in 2017.
The seven newcomers will join seven Bearcat returners: Garrett Atkinson, Cameron Bell, Michael Brodie, Braydon Evans, Roberto Garagorri, Chris Kendall and Jon Parker. Lander climbed as high as No. 15 in the national rankings last season and reached the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year.
