Lander sees season come to an end with loss to Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team placed five players in double-figures, but could not overcome Augusta in an 87-74 loss on Saturday afternoon. 

The loss eliminates the Bearcats (11-17, 7-15 PBC) from the race for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. 

Nicklas Jonsson led Lander with 17 points and Rahu Purdie added 15. Sidney Robinson and TJ Knight came off the bench to post 13 and 11 points, respectively. Robinson also led the team with four steals on the defensive end. Jordan Dingle recorded 10 points and four assists. Sergio Smith grabbed a team-high eight rebound in his final game as a Bearcat. 

Augusta (16-12, 13-9 PBC) turned 14 Bearcat turnovers into 30 points and out-rebounded Lander 41-31 on the day. The Jaguars also converted 18 offensive rebounds into 22 second-chance points. 

The Jaguars led by 19 midway through the first half and took a 44-36 lead into halftime. Aaron Byrd and Deane Williams paced Augusta with 19 points each.
