MORROW, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team fell behind early and could not rally against one of the top teams in the Peach Belt Conference, dropping an 86-65 decision to Clayton State on Monday afternoon.
Lander (6-10, 2-8 PBC) was led by 14 points from Sidney Robinson, who was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc, and 13 from Zane Rankin. Sergio Smith collected a team-high seven rebounds while Srdjan Ivic dished two of the Bearcats' five assists and grabbed two steals.
An early 17-3 run from the Lakers (9-4, 7-2 PBC) opened up a 20-8 lead, from which Lander never recovered. The Bearcats trailed 35-25 at halftime and saw the deficit swell to 22 points with 6:34 left in the game. Lander shot 38.5% from the floor and 53.3% from deep.
Aubrey McRae led Clayton State with 25 points, while Jaylen Taylor added 10 rebounds for the Lakers.
Lander returns to Finis Horne Arena on Wednesday night for a date with Young Harris at 7:30 p.m.
