Denmark native Asger Hjorth to play basketball at Lander

GREENWOOD - Denmark native Asger Hjorth has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his basketball career at Lander University announced Bearcat head coach Jeff Burkhamer today.

Hjorth, a 6-10, 230-pound post player from Kongens Lyngby, was recently a member of the Danish Under-20 team which won the Nordic Championship.

"The Peach Belt Conference has become a very big league so Asger's size is important," said Burkhamer. "Asger runs very well for a big guy, he can catch the ball, rebound, and will block and alter a lot of shots. He can also score in the paint and out to about 16 feet.  We believe he can become a force in the Peach Belt Conference."

Hjorth, who plans to pursue a degree in graphic design, said, "I am very excited about the opportunity to continue my education and to play at Lander. I look forward to improving and hope to make an impact on the program. I can't wait to get to Greenwood and get started."
