Men's basketball falls to Flagler College, 73-66
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - John Pietkiewicz scored a game-high 14 points and Eddie Fowler added 20 to lead the Flagler College men's basketball team to a 73-66 Peach Belt Conference victory over Lander Saturday afternoon.
Flagler improves to 10-14 overall and 4-12 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 10-14, 3-13.
In addition to Pietkiewicz and Fowler, D.J. Ferguson added 19 points, six rebounds and eight assists for the Saints and Kenny Moore chipped in six points and 13 rebounds.
Flagler broke a 55-55 tie with 5:50 remaining in the game on a Pietkiewicz three and held the Bearcats off the remainder of the game.
Pruett made two free throws with 36 seconds remaining to cut the margin to 67-63, but the Saints made all six of their free throws in the last 35 seconds of play.
The two teams played it close the first half, as neither team led by more than six points. Lander took a 33-32 lead with 1:54 in the half on a Quentin Bastian jumper, but Ferguson came right back and tied the game at 33-33 when he made the first of two free throws at 1:41.
Neither team scored the remainder of the half.
Lander eased out to a 40-37 advantage with 16:28 left to play on a Stefan Tabasevic three, but Flagler went back ahead 41-40 when Pietkiewicz made a pair of technical foul shots.
The Saints built up a 47-42 lead on Ferguson's layup at 12:57, but Pruett's three-point play and three pointer cut the margin to 49-48 with 11:02 remaining.
Lander made 25-of-54 field goals (46.3 percent), including 5-of-13 threes (38.5 percent). The Bearcats also sank 11-of-15 free throws (73.3 percent).
Flagler was 23-of-47 from the field (48.9 percent), 4-of-10 from the three-point line (40 percent) and 23-of-33 from the foul line (69.7 percent).
Lander outrebounded the Saints, 30-29.
