Chris Anderson was hired as Lander's assistant baseball coach in August 2009.
A 2001 graduate of Catawba (N.C.) College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education, Chris led the Indian pitching staff to a two-year 62-43 record. He played his first two years of collegiate ball at Three Rivers Community College in Missouri and helped lead the team to a 35-18 record and a regional appearance.
For the past five years, he helped lead Belmont Abbey to back-to-back NCAA Division II Southeast Region appearances and a trip to the College World Series in 2009. Prior to Belmont Abbey he was at Catawba College where he was the assistant coach for three seasons. During the summers of 2003-05, he coached the South Rowan American Legion team.
Joined with current Lander head coach Kermit Smith, Chris helped turn Belmont Abbey into national contender. Belmont Abbey posted a 28-30 record during his first season, a 14-win turnaround from the previous year. As the pitching coach/recruiting coordinator, Belmont Abbey posted a 164-135 overall record, the best five-year stretch in Belmont Abbey baseball history.
The Crusaders, who were ranked as high as No. 4 in 2009, had four players sign professional contracts during Anderson's tenure. He coached two other future professionals at Catawba College.
A native of Batesville, Ark., Chris was on two state championship high school teams and one in American Legion.
