Lander swept by Flagler as Saints win 13th consecutive game

GREENWOOD – The Flagler College Saints stayed unbeaten in the Peach Belt Conference and won their 13th consecutive game, completing a sweep of the Lander Bearcats with a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Dolny Stadium.

Lander fell to 5-12 overall, 1-8 in the Peach Belt.

The Saints improved to 16-2, 9-0. Their last loss was Feb. 10 against Wingate.

Sunday's game was a pitcher's duel between Flagler's Louis Pugliese and Lander's Chris Sheehan.

Flagler took a 1-0 lead in the first when Dillon Reed walked, moved to second on a grounder and scored on Aaron Anderson's two-out single.

The Saints made it 2-0 in the sixth when Jacob Moore walked and scored on Frankie Martello's two-out double.

Flagler added a run in the ninth when Martello was hit by a pitch and scored on Ja'Kobi Dasher's triple.

Pugliese (1-0) earned the victory, tossing 7.1 innings of four-hit shutout ball. Nick Martinez relieved in the eighth and induced a double play ball. Ethan Jones pitched the ninth, collecting his third save.

Sheehan (0-3) was the tough luck loser for the Bearcats. He worked eight solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. JD Cook allowed one run in the ninth.

Colton Yeager, Bailey Connell, Zack Moore and Carson Jones had hits for Lander, all singles.

Dasher was Flagler's top hitter, going 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI.
