No. 27 Limestone baseball defeats Lander, 5-1

GAFFNEY - The No. 27 Limestone baseball team scattered 10 hits Thursday afternoon en route to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Lander at Bob Prevatte Field.

Limestone improves to 11-4 overall, while Lander is 9-8.

Lander's Todd Hughson (1-2) took the loss after striking out one, walking one and allowing three earned runs on six hits in four innings pitched.

Limestone's Thomas Fekete (2-0) earned the win as he struck out one, walked two and allowed one earned run on five hits in five innings.

Limestone took a 1-0 lead in the first when Al Benson singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third then went home on a groundout. The Saints stretched the lead to 2-0 in the second on Zach Howard's RBI single.

The Saints scored one more run in each the third and fourth innings to make it 4-0. Jayvon Sanders' RBI single plated Jake Rierson in the third and Chad Balderman stroked a solo homer in the fourth.

Lander cut the lead to 4-1 in the fifth when Robert Skinner's sacrifice fly scored Jeff May.

Benson made it 5-1 in the seventh when he scored on Rierson's fielder's choice.

For Lander, Joe Tebaldi (3-for-4) and Kevin Childs (1-for-4) both doubled, while AJ Nunziato went 2-for-3.

For Limestone, Benson went 3-for-4 and Sanders 2-for-4.
