David is entering his eighth year as a part-time assistant in the Sports Information office.

A 1985 graduate of Parkland (Ill.) College with degrees in journalism and liberal arts, David has been employed full-time with the Upper Savannah Council of Governments in Greenwood since 1995 as Communications Director. David has made a career out of journalism, including two years as sports editor of the Chester (S.C.) News & Reporter and nine years in the sports department of The Index-Journal (Greenwood). He was sports editor at The Index-Journal for his last seven years there including much coverage of Lander athletic events.

Since leaving the Index-Journal in 1995, David has been a sports stringer for The Index-Journal and Clinton (S.C.) Chronicle. At Upper Savannah, he is in charge of press releases, newsletters and day-to-day staff assistance. His duties at Lander include assisting with game scoring, press releases and Bearcats athletic website articles.

David is married to the former Ms. Kelley Porterfield of Greenwood and they have one son, Alex, born in January 2002.
