12/2/2009Four volleyball players earn post-season awardsGREENWOOD - Four members of the 2009 Lander volleyball team reaped numerous post-season honors making the team one of the most decorated squads in the 12-year history of the program. Junior Melissa McCracken, who was ranked second in the Peach Belt Conference in kills with 3.59 per set, was named first-team All-PBC and also earned honorable mention on the AVCA All-Southeast Region team. McCracken had a school-record 431 kills, breaking the previous mark of 402 set by Andrea Griffin in 2007. Senior Ashley Ferry received the first PBC Libero of the Year award in addition to being named to the All-PBC team. Ferry, who led the league in digs per set with 5.04, also made the PBC All-Academic team. Junior setter Candace LaRocca earned second-team All-PBC honors and was included on the PBC All-Academic team. LaRocca, who is second on the Lander career list for assists with 2,697, was fourth in the PBC with 8.56 assists per set. Sophomore Magi Nottingham, who was 13th in the PBC in kills per set with 2.37, earned a spot on the PBC All-Academic team. |
