ORLANDO, Fla. - Lander University's Paul Henri Arrigoni reached the "A" singles championship match Sunday at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational hosted by Rollins College. Arrigoni was defeated by Armstrong Atlantic State University's Mikk Irdoja, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the title match. Arrigoni defeated Rollins' Girts Dzelde, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round, downed Stetson's Mark Mestan, 6-3, 3-6, 2-1 (injury), in the quarterfinals and advanced to the championship match by beating Palm Beach Atlantic's Krasimir Atonosov, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. In other "A" singles action, Lander's Levan Clark lost to Barry's Alex Svigelj, the No. 5 ranked player in the country, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round. In the "B" singles, John Cappabianca defeated Rollins' Nick Rowlands, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round, then fell to Barry's Max Wimmer, 7-6, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. In doubles, Lander's team of Clark/Arrigoni defeated Florida Tech's Yan Rodriguez/Jonathan Hanna, 8-3, before losing to Barry's Wimmer/Marco Mokrzycki, 8-3. |
